Chembra is the highest peak in the Wayanad district. Chembra Peak is an elevation of 2,100 m above sea level, in the Indian state of Kerala. Situated at a distance of 8 km south of Kalpetta, in the Wayanad region of Kerala, close to the town of Meppadi, on the slopes of Wayanad. The Chembra Peak can be reached on foot from Meppadi. The District Tourism Promotion Council provides facilities and guidance to visitors. This peak can be clearly seen from all parts of Wayanad. This place is an ideal destination for travel exercises. Prior permission must be obtained from the Meppadi Forest Office before embarking on a trek to Chembra Peak. Setting up a short-term camp on top of the Chembra is not allowed because of the danger from wildlife. It takes about three hours to reach the top of the Chembra top. From the highest point of the peak, the whole of Wayanad is a sight to behold. There are several modes of government and private transport to reach Chembra. You can get off at Kalpetta and from there to Chembra. Surrounded by slopes, tea gardens, and lush green valleys, Chembra Peak is one of the most notable mountain ranges in Wayanad. Chembra Peak is a beautiful place that offers breathtaking views of the unusual flora of the district. The Forest Department is arranging a trip to Chembra Peak. It takes you to the heart-shaped lake through the evergreen forests and lush vegetation. This lake is also known as the Heart Lake. As you stroll through the tea ranches and into the mist-covered views, you will have one of the most amazing encounters while trekking. Chembra Peak is perfect for a weekend getaway with the family or a trip with your friends. Like the Kurumbalakotta Hills, Chembra is an ideal trekking destination.

You can start trekking after picking up your ticket from the ticket counter. You can climb up and experience the breathtaking views of the valley and the city. On a sunny morning, you too can see this peak. You can take the vehicle to the watch tower or walk that far. This is the starting point of the Chembra Hill trek.

For photographers, Chembra is a paradise. From the very beginning of your Chembra Peak journey, you are surrounded by lofty views. Along the way, you will find green tea gardens and spice gardens. On top of that, as you move up the peak, you will be accompanied by luxurious lush greenery. The journey ends at the heart-shaped beautiful lake known as Cupid Lake. People can start trekking from the ticket counter itself. But the beginning point for the journey is at the watchtower, almost 1 km absent. And you’ll be able to drive your vehicle to the stopping spot close to that tower. Jeeps are also available from the ticket counter to the Chembra Top trek starting point. You will require authorization from the forest division to start your journey. And only 200 people are given Chembra Top consent per day, on a first-come-first-serve basis.

From the watchtower, the journey to the heart-shaped Chembra Crest lake starts. The lake, which is approximately 2 km absent, is known as the Hridhayathadakam. The trekking path is appraised as tolerably troublesome, and it takes you through tea manors and the forest. Afterward, you get within the open space, where you can do relatively simple and direct trekking. At its highest point, you may witness the best see of the lake. From there, you’ll be able to walk your way down to the lake. After spending time there, you must descend to the base, i.e. the ticket counter, by evening. Overnight camping isn’t permitted at Chembra Peak. Chembra Peak is one of the best trekking spots in Kerala. The total distance to Chembra Crest is about 4.5 km. The watchtower is around 1 km absent from the counter and the lake is around 2 km from there. The crest is around 1.5 km from the lake, but you are not permitted to do trekking till there. So, the permitted length of the journey is around 3 - 3.5 km.

Best Time to Visit Chembra Peak

You can visit Chembra Peak all the time except during the monsoon season. Heavy rain makes the track vague and unsafe to travel. In summer also, you should avoid trekking as it is very humid. Therefore, the best season for travel is in the winter after the monsoons. From December to February, the climate in Chembra Top is cool and the environment is covered with new greenery. Also, it is best to start the journey early in the morning. The cold snow will make your journey to the top unforgettable. It takes about 5-6 hours to reach Chembra Top at a comfortable speed. It takes about an hour to reach the Watchtower on foot. From there it is a 2-hour drive through the tea gardens, forests, and meadows to the heart of the lake. There you can relax for an hour or walk around, and charge from the views. It will take another 3 hours from there to reach the top of the Chembra hill.

From Sultan Bathery

Chembra Peak can be reached via Sultan Bathery - Kolagapara (Take Left) - Ambalavayal - Nedumkarana - Arapetta - Meppadi.

From Kalpetta

You can reach Chembra Peak via Kalpetta - Meppadi. If you are coming from Calicut side, then you can directly reach Meppadi from Chunda(Take Right)
